About the Tour of Homes

The Aylmer-Malahide Museum Volunteers' annual Christmas Tour of Homes began in 2002. This fundraiser was developed to benefit the museum's operation and raise awareness of local businesses. It is now a Christmas tradition for many locals and visitors from all over Ontario and beyond. Four unique, interesting and/or historical homes are chosen in the Aylmer Area. These homes are decorated for Christmas and then opened for participants to tour. This is a major fundraiser for the museum. Many volunteer hours and support from homeowners and local businesses go into making this an annual success.

Tickets to the 2025 Christmas Tour of Homes are $25 each. Please find your tickets at one of the sources below!

Before the Tour

Local businesses have kindly partnered with the museum to sell Tour of Homes tickets on our behalf.

Please note that volunteers will collect all tickets from these locations on Wednesday, November 12. Tickets will be available at the museum after this point and at each of the homes on the tour when the tour begins.

Tickets will be available at:

The Aylmer-Malahide Museum & Archives
14 East St., Aylmer

Please note that these are physical tickets. Tickets purchased through this website will be ready for their respective tour-goers at the Aylmer-Malahide Museum at 14 East St. Your purchase will not be available at any other stop on the tour. Built in 1989 by the homeowner’s parents, she and her husband purchased the home in 2015. Since then, the family has renovated the kitchen and all four bathrooms, opened up the kitchen and living room for a more family-friendly space, and refinished the original hardwood floors and staircase. Summers are often spent hosting friends and family, while Christmas brings its own warmth to the home.

Constructed by DeSutter Homes in 2022 to be the homeowners’ retirement residence, this lovely modern-country-style home features a large front porch, office and reading area, open family room, primary bedroom with attached ensuite and walk-in closet, kitchen with large island, and finished basement. One of the homeowners’ favourite areas of their home is the rear covered porch, where they watch beautiful sunrises and harvest moons.

St. Paul’s United Church

5 Queen Street North

Originally a Wesleyan Methodist congregation, St. Paul’s had its beginnings in the 1840s, with the construction of a wood-frame church on the southeast corner of Queen Street and Sydenham Street. The building was used until 1873, when a lot was acquired from James Finnie on the northeast corner of Talbot Street and Queen Street, and construction on the present church began. The new church was dedicated in October 1875 by Rev. Egerton Ryerson. The church seated over 700 people and boasted a 156-foot steeple.

St. Paul’s has kindly offered their property to be decorated by the Tour of Homes Committee and toured by ticket holders. Please stop by to take a peek!

The Aylmer-Malahide Museum & Archives is proud to showcase local merchants and businesses in each home on the Christmas Tour of Homes. Merchants who participate in the tour will have their merchandise prominently displayed in each home. Museum volunteers work with the merchants to select a series of products to borrow for the duration of the tour and will return those products to their respective merchants as soon as possible after the tour. Volunteers will provide merchants with a detailed loan form indicating agreed-upon pickup and return dates. The Tour of Homes ticket booklet will include explicit credit and thanks to each merchant, and each merchant is entitled to two complimentary tickets for their participation.

Merchants of the Aylmer, Malahide, or East Elgin areas are welcome to fill out the below application. Should museum volunteers be interested in using your merchandise for the Tour of Homes, committee representatives will be in contact.

The Tour of Homes relies on the generosity of local homeowners to operate. We would love to hear from you if you're interested in showcasing your home on the tour!

Please note that homes on the tour must be located within Aylmer or Malahide.

Homeowners work closely with the Tour of Homes Committee to ready their homes for the tour, and are entitled to two free tickets to the tour and a gift card to a local restaurant.

Should the committee be interested in partnering with you to showcase your home, a committee member will be in contact to discuss details and the next steps. Thank you for your time and consideration!
